Extendable trailers are flatbed, double drop, or drop deck trailers that have the added functionality to be extended in order to accommodate very long material. These have the capability to be extended up to 81’ long, in lieu of a fixed trailer which is only 53’ long. Extendable trailers, also called stretch and telescopic trailers, are built from steel and are generally 96” to 102” long.
Extendable trailers are very versatile; in they can haul many different shapes of freight. However, extendable trailers are also very heavy, and this can constrict the loads carried. Great Western Leasing has an extensive inventory of new and used extendable trailers to fit your needs.
Extendable Flatbed Trailer Applications
Freight commonly hauled with Extendable Trailers include:
- Long Steel
- Long Rebar
- Long lumber
- Long steel beams (for bridges)
- Train tracks
- Other long freight
Extendable trailers can have 2 or 3 axles, sometimes more. The axles almost always slide together in order to balance the load weight.
